Fair Mountain Christmas

(Heartwarming Christmas)

By Heidi Eljarbo

Nostalgia and Christmas miracles burn bright in this uplifting and heartwarming story about new beginnings and falling in love under a blanket of stars.

Fair Mountain, December 1972.

A few days before Christmas, Juni’s editor gives her a writing assignment that throws her far outside her comfort zone. She and her terrier, Leo, retreat to her grandparents’ old cabin in the Norwegian mountains in hopes of inspiration. But the trip turns into a heart-wrenching and emotionally challenging encounter.

Memories of Juni’s childhood seep in as soon as she enters the cabin, and as for the writing assignment…what does she know about what children need for Christmas?

Juni’s focus changes when handsome Henry Norheim from Moose Lodge down the hill unexpectedly shows up outside her cottage door. His dedication to family, traditions, and Christmas celebration is contagious, but for Juni, coming out of her lonely shell is easier said than done.

As Juni’s deadline draws closer, and the snowflakes softly swirl down on Fair Mountain, she has to face up to her past, open her heart, and dare to take a step forward. Will the miracle of Christmas live up to its promise of hope, goodwill, and love this year?

INTERVIEW

Writing Interview questions.

Why did you choose to write your book in this era?

My parents had a cabin when I grew up in the 60s and 70s. Then twenty-some years ago, my husband and I bought a mountain cabin built in the early 70s. When the story about Juni formed in my head, I knew she had to stay in such a cabin and at a time before cell phones and today’s technology existed.

What is the most surprising thing you discovered while you were researching this era?

I’ve been thinking about how easy it is today. If you were lost all alone in a snowstorm before, you had no way of telling people where you were and what had happened.

Can you share something about the book that isn’t covered in the blurb?

I’d say that spending time in the serenity of the beautiful mountains can teach you a lot about yourself.

If you had to describe your protagonist, in three words, what would those three words be?

Longing, full of hope, forgiving

What are you currently working on?

I am working on the third book in a historical mystery series about an art historian who joins the resistance during WWII. The series is a dual timeline, and each book goes back to the seventeenth-century and the real-life artists who painted each artwork our protagonist is trying to save.

Personal Interview questions.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I love walking my dog, playing with my grandchildren, and hugging my husband. As for hobbies, I paint, sing, and do genealogy.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I thought I’d work with art. I studied art, and now I write about it in novels. It’s a win-win for me.

What’s for dinner tonight? What would you rather be eating?

I love Mexican food, good salads, and soups.

What’s your favourite food?

Homemade chocolate chip cookies. I know—it really is a horrible habit. I love it with a glass of cold milk.

What is the best part of your day?

I like Mondays and I like mornings when I plan the day and start on my writing projects. I also love late evenings watching series with my husband.
